Jay Rappaport to lead Tulane

Neuroscientist and HIV/AIDS researcher Jay Rappaport, PhD, will join Tulane University as the new director and chief academic officer of the Tulane National Primate Research Center (TNPRC). Rappaport, who is currently a professor and associate chair for education in the Neuroscience Department of the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University, begins June 1.

"As a leader in infectious and chronic disease research, Tulane National Primate Research Center is critically important to biomedical research at Tulane," said Lee Hamm, MD, Tulane University School of Medicine dean and senior vice president. "Dr. Rappaport is an outstanding scientist who will lead the center to even greater successes." More >>

Erin Boh as Physician of the Year

The National Psoriasis Foundation honored Tulane dermatologist Erin Boh, MD, PhD, FAAD, as Outstanding Physician/Clinician of the Year for her tireless efforts to help patients and advance new treatments for the chronic autoimmune disease.

With more than 28 years' experience in dermatology, Boh is one of the nation's foremost experts in treating and managing psoriasis, which affects more than 8 million people in the United States. More >>

Spirit of Charity Award

The Spirit of Charity Foundation announced that Lee Hamm, MD, is the 2018 recipient of its prestigious 19th annual Spirit of Charity Award. The Spirit of Charity Award is presented each year to a physician "whose career began or was nurtured in the healing and teaching wards of New Orleans' Charity Hospital and who has made a significant contribution to medicine."

Hamm said he views the honor as recognition of Tulane's overall efforts at New Orleans' public hospitals through the years. More >>


Tulane medical students celebrate
Match Day 2018

Match Day 2018
There were cheers, hugs and tears of joy as Tulane University School of Medicine students learned where they'll spend the next three-to-seven years of their training.

On March 16, Tulane's 191 fourth-year medical students were matched with residency programs around the country, including 31 students who will continue their careers in Louisiana. Watch the excitement of Match Day 2018 in this video. More >>

as outstanding mentor

L. Gabriel Navar, PhD
Luis Gabriel Navar, PhD, chair of the Tulane University School of Medicine Department of Physiology, was honored with the 2018 Mentor of the Year Award from the Southern Society for Clinical Investigation (SSCI) for his more than 30 years of guidance to students and junior faculty.

SSCI annually recognizes its members who have acted as dedicated mentors throughout their careers, providing young researchers with the essential training needed for success in biomedical sciences. Navar received the award in February at the annual SSCI Plenary Session in New Orleans. More >>

Shortly before his 40th Tulane University School of Medicine reunion, Neil Robinson, MD (M '78), said he was looking forward to reminiscing about the past — but he was also eager to help preserve the school's future. Robinson has chosen to celebrate his reunion by leaving a generous bequest to the School of Medicine.
